What is the SHAPERS study?
SHAPERS is a pragmatic study, meaning a study designed to help choose between standard treatment options, involving several centres in Belgium, which will include around 230 patients to compare two treatments that are considered standard. More information can be found in the « About this study » tab.
Why was the SHAPERS study initiated?
Until now, elderly patients have been under-represented in clinical trials. SHAPERS addresses this unmet need, focusing on quality of life and trying to find the right balance between efficacy and toxicity of cancer treatments for a patient population with unique priorities and expectations. Your participation can make a difference in the fight against rectal cancer in elderly patients.

Collaboration with the KCE
This study is funded by the “KCE Trials” program. This is a funding program by the Belgian public authorities for non-commercial clinical trials. It is managed by the KCE (Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre/ https://kce.fgov.be). It is important to note that the KCE is responsible for selecting and funding clinical trials, but does not conduct them itself. Hospitals, universities or non-commercial research establishments assume responsibility for promotion and collaboration.
